Danny Mason Returns from Broken Leg!
Danny returns for Ipswich United.
Danny broke his leg playing against Waterside on 18th August 2007 & Returns 12th January 2008 against Waterside!
9 Men better than 11?
Ipswich United Veterans fielding only 9 player proved team spirit & hard work can prevail!
The 9 men listed below gained the Veterans their first victory of the season against Walton Rovers.
(GK) Paul Steggalls (Steggs)
(DF) Paul Davy (Bart), Paul Richardson (Woody), Martin Challis (Chaz), Eammon Sparkes
(MF) Karl Ripper (Ripper), Darren Breedon (Daz), Mark Bell (Dinger)
(ST) Paul Bailey (Bails).
Walton should have taken the lead but a missed a penalty, and the Vets made them play scoring just before half time when Ripper scored. (HT 1-0)
The second half was only a few minutes old when Walton made it all square. (1-1)
The Vets again took the lead when Bails beat both keeper & defender to the ball to score. (2-1)
Walton again restored parity when they levelled when Steggs was unable to hold a fierce shot! (2-2)
Team spirit was good even though the legs were heavy, but then Ripper ran from his own half to make it 3-2. (3-2)
Walton made their numbers count when they worked the ball wide & it was a case of lining up to equalise. (3-3)
With 19 minutes left it looked like the 11 would make the tired legs pay, but backs against the wall with last gasp tackling was working.
Then Ipswich United were awarded a freekick in the Walton Half which was floated to the back post where new boy Dinger thundered home a header with only 2 minutes left. (4-3)
The 2 minutes were seen out & the first taste of victory this season took the Veterans into 4th place (Only 6 in the League!)
Well done lads what an outstanding display!
